The New
Look For Wood Stairs The true beauty and significance of
Salter's solid oak wood stair design is that we are manufacturing a kit
spiral stair that does not look like a kit. This is achieved by our unique
tread attachment to a 5" round, solid wood oak center column. With hardened
steel fasteners and components that are imbedded into the wood tread, we
have created a solid connection to the center column.
Salter's commitment to quality is evident in our solid oak spiral stair.
The versatility of our modern manufacturing plant enables us to produce
stairs from all steel to all wood. This can only be accomplished by having a
steel fabricating shop and an architectural wood working facility all under
one roof. That is our commitment to making sure we provide the best possible
spiral stair in the industry. |

Architectural Art
Another substantial design characteristic is that each primary baluster
is connected to two treads. By making the connection in this fashion,
additional strength is achieved. Each baluster is recessed into the corners
of the tread, which creates a smooth and attractive fit. The outside edge of
the tread is enclosed preventing the tread from cupping and it also stiffens
the baluster connection with additional graceful curves. |

The center column is
factory drilled to accommodate the floor to floor height specified. The
individual treads are pre-assembled and the wooden handrail is built and
supplied in one piece. When assembling the stair some drilling is required.
In the areas that need drilling, we supply assembly jigs and templates to
maintain the installation accuracy. This job can be completed by an advanced
do-it-your-selfer, or a carpenter. The primary tools needed for assemblyof
the wood stairs are a drill, tape measure, socket set and a level. All wood
components are delivered unfinished; and it is recommended that three coats
of polyurethane or similar sealers are applied. |
