??????Tribal Sofreh rugs, (tablecloths), have a similar function to the ones used by the city-dwellers. As its name implies, (Sofra means table in Turkish), Sofreh rugs are utilized in exactly the same way as a tablecloth, for the placing of food dishes and other eating wares on it. The difference between the tribal and city Sofreh rugs is that the former were woven like Kilims, but with less design. At most they have a colourful border that makes up the main part of the Sofreh rug. The simplicity of tribal and rural Sofreh rugs has always been enticing for city-dwellers and they are used as paintings on the walls or for tablecloths with a decorative function.
