This handmade ewer
was made in the Kutahya area in Asia Minor, which is famous for its unique
cobalt blue colored cini. The three cirles with dots and the wavy lines
around them are called the "cintimani" motif. The word "Cintamani"
originates from the Sanskrit "Cintamani" in Esotheric Buddhism
philosophy. It means treasure ball or wishgranting jewel. It is also the
name of the well-known three dots and stripes pattern. Doubtless, Turkish
people brough their own cultures based on religions like Buddhism, Shamanism
and Manism with them when they came from Central Asia to Anatolia. In their
cultures, patterned animal skins like tiger (stripes) and leopard (dots)
representing courage and strength were very important. In the Ottoman period,
these motifs were very popular as the representation of power and royality
on textiles, carpets, pottery and in all other Ottoman Arts.
